In 1924 the two brothers Dassler at Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik started to produce running shoes in the back of their mother´s laundry business. The shoes got international recognition when one of the brothers, Adi Dassler, convinced the american sprinter Jesse Owens to use the shoes at the Berlin Summer Olympics in 1936. Jesse Owens won 4 gold medals and was the first sponsored afro-american in the Olympics ever. The rest is history.
